Solar Company Saves Cash, Gets More Utility

Flagship Solar is a rapidly growing solar installation company that was having difficulty acquiring vehicles as quickly and efficiently as they needed. They were spending far too much on their existing fleet of heavy-duty trucks that had no shelving or ladder racks, resulting in inefficiencies at job sites.

At the same time, Flagship solar was also having issues with break-ins that were costing them thousands of dollars per month. They needed a solution that would help them find vehicles quickly, with the right equipment, and the safety required so that they could reduce expenses and complete more jobs.

Where Can I Get Vans? Asking for a Friend

In addition to not being able to find vehicles quickly enough, Flagship Solar needed vehicles with equipment that provided them with more utility in the field. While F-350s are great for hauling, they often don’t have enough covered storage space to provide adequate organization for tools and equipment. Ideally, a technician would arrive at the jobsite with everything neatly organized so that they don’t waste time digging around for tools or supplies.

Flagship solar’s issue is not uncommon for fleets—that is, if you’re a business that uses vehicles, the traditional procurement options are to buy, lease, or rent. If you need vehicles quickly, renting is the speediest option. However, if you need a van with specialty equipment, purchasing new vans from the dealership, ordering from the factory, or using a fleet management company (FMC) to source vehicles can take 6–8 months.

Liquidity in the (Balance) Sheets, Utility in the Streets

Kingbee was able to provide Flagship Solar with a solution that not only saved them money on a monthly basis, but provided the added benefit of shelving, ladder racks, partitions, and their company’s logos in a much faster turnaround time. No other van provider in the country can provide fully upfitted and wrapped vans in 2–4 weeks.

Kingbee offers an alternative to choosing between the archaic process of months-long vehicle procurement and sacrificing utility with conventional rentals. Our short-term rental model helped Flagship sustain new market growth with revenue-generating assets that remain off balance sheet, preserving their borrowing capacity to leverage in other parts of their business.

Results

In under a month, Flagship received their first order of 6 vans to replace their expensive trucks while continuing to keep vehicles in service. Later, as they expanded into new markets and needed additional vehicles to complete jobs, Kingbee provided 9 additional vans.

Since replacing their trucks with Kingbee vehicles, Flagship Solar has had no issues with break-ins.
